Ponnuthurai Raman Seetharaman is one of the most celebrated film composers in India. He came into the world as per the wishes of his father, Mani Seethara. His father had an interest for music and film-making so he named him accordingly to achieve both of these dreams for his son. Ponnuthurai Raman was born on September 18th 1923 in the year known as Kanni Sankaramana among his family members who are scholars and filmmakers of Tamil Nadu. His father Mani Seetharaman provided him with a variety show for children at age three which he enjoyed directing himself by making up stories through gestures, movements, and song lyrics. His father created a tape recorder when he was in high-school. He was very fond of this toy and even then when his father asked him to provide his voice to write something; he started reading stories in different voices. He soon discovered that everyone enjoyed his voice very much and the recording equipment became the most demanding toy in the whole town. His father took it upon himself to teach him about music so that his talents would be used for bettering society in the future. Ponnuthurai Raman started singing for radio shows, stage plays, and many other events very early in his life by imitating existing singers with great success. He went on to create a few stage shows along with his father and brother. He learned the different art forms using the forms of various artists from around the world. At this time, he also grew an interest in learning about the history of music from any source that is available to him. In 1950, Tamizh Isai or Tamil Film Industry had started rising steadily with the help of new artists and technicians including L. Vaidyanathan who handled sound recording and mixing for most of those early films. Ponnuthurai Raman joined them as an apprentice and proved himself as a very quick learner with a wide range of talents which qualified him to be promoted as Assistant Director under them on many occasions. He also worked as a dubbing artist, music composer, and lyricist in the film called "Pudhiya Pathai" in 1952. In 1955, he composed the background score for the film "Vaazhkai Veeran" which was produced by Pandari Bai and directed by G. R. Nathan under Ravi Kavimani's help as well as story writing for this film. He worked with Ariyappaji on many films; Ariyappaji was the first to use the term ‘Sound Engineer’ for him even though others had dubbed him using other terms like ‘Musical Director’ before that . He worked as assistant director for films like "Kannan oliyavan" (1951) and "Kaalam Maari Pochu" (1952). His first directorial venture was "Sathiya Samsaram" (1953). His father Mani Seetharaman took over the task of writing the screenplay for films based on his own life including this film. He also composed the background score for the films "Vaazhkai Veeran" which was released in 1955 and directed by G. R. Nathan under Ravi Kavimani's help as well as story writing for this film, "Virumandi" (1950), which was directed by M. A. cfa1e77820
